Each Leaders Lead On-Demand exchange is outcome-oriented, offering participants the opportunity to contribute to practical deliverables and partnerships. For example, the “Telling Our Stories” exchange enabled educators and youth to produce compelling visual narratives reflecting historical transformations and community resilience.

TOMÁŠ DVOŘÁK

Czech Republic

Through creating this digital story, Tomáš Dvořák connected with his father as a fellow musician and wanted to contrast his personal experience as a musician with his father’s experience during communism. During the project, he fully realized the immense power of storytelling: “I had always thought that the story would have to be unique and huge to make any impact. But after seeing all the other participants’ stories, I noticed that sometimes it is the tiny details which we all share that can appeal to our emotions and drive the positive change. I hope that it will help people understand how living without freedom can affect the little-most parts of our life. And also, that you don’t always need to be the hero or fight with guns and bullets. If enough people will dismantle the oppressive state stone by stone, it will eventually fall.”

“Telling Our Stories” 1989 Anniversary exchange brought together educators and students from Central and Eastern Europe and aimed to emphasize progress and accomplishments in post-communist societies.
